Latin Name: Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Piglet'

Common Name: Piglet Dwarf Fountain Grass

Zones: 5–9

Height & Spread: 12–18 inches tall, spreading 12–18 inches wide

Descriptive Features: A compact, well-behaved dwarf fountain grass, slightly larger and more upright than the popular 'Little Bunny' while still retaining a petite, tidy scale suited to smaller garden spaces. Forms a dense, rounded mound of narrow, arching green foliage. In mid to late summer, soft, fluffy, creamy-white to tan bottlebrush flower spikes rise just above the foliage in abundance, adding gentle texture and movement, and persist as attractive seed heads into winter if left standing, offering food and shelter for birds. Foliage turns warm golden-tan tones in fall before fading for winter. Blooms reliably even in cooler climates and shorter growing seasons where some larger fountain grass cultivars may struggle to flower before frost. Extremely low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, adaptable to a wide range of soils. Deer-resistant, needing only a late-winter cutback before new growth resumes. Its compact size makes it an excellent choice for small gardens, edging, rock gardens, mass plantings, or container use in full sun to light shade.
