Symphyotrichum novae-angliae, commonly called New England aster, is a perennial native to central and eastern North America. Occurring in moist prairies, meadows, thickets, low valleys and stream banks. Features profuse, dark purple, daisy-like blooms with yellow centers from late summer to early fall. Flowers are attractive to butterflies. 

Grown easily in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers moist, rich soils and good air circulation. Suitable for mixed perennial beds and borders, native and wildflower gardens, and naturalizes well in meadow plantings.
