Schizachyrium scoparium, commonly called Little Bluestem, is a clumping, erect, perennial grass native to eastern North America. Occurring in a wide range of moist to dry habitats. Leaves and stems have a bluish cast in summer, turning to warm copper in fall. Seed heads are purplish bronze. 

Grown easily in average, dry to medium-moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates high heat, humidity, drought, and salt.  Attractive in mass plantings, borders and meadows. Adapts well to container plantings. Seeds are of value to small birds in winter. Suitable for coastal areas, rain gardens, low water use gardens, borders and meadows and in mass plantings.
