Descriptive Features: Named the Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year in 1997 and one of the most widely planted salvias in American gardens. Forms a compact, clump-forming mound of oblong, aromatic green leaves topped by dense spikes of deep violet-purple flowers from late spring through midsummer, with continued bloom if deadheaded. Exceptionally cold hardy and reliably upright and tidy all season. Deer-resistant and low-maintenance; excellent in borders, containers, and cut flower arrangements in full sun.
