Descriptive Features: A compact selection of Chinese astilbe, forming a strong, uniform, upright habit of deeply incised, coarsely textured, dark green foliage that stays attractive from spring through fall. Narrow, pyramidal, slightly fragrant flower panicles rise cleanly above the foliage plane in midsummer, densely packed with hundreds of small, dark pink flowers that open in succession for a long-lasting display. As with other Chinese astilbes, it offers better drought tolerance and sun tolerance than most Arendsii hybrids, though it still performs best with consistently moist soil. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, heavy-shade tolerant, and attractive to bees and butterflies. Its smaller stature makes it especially well suited to compact borders, small-space shade gardens, woodland edges, or container plantings in full sun to full shade.
