Latin Name: Symphyotrichum dumosum 'Wood's Pink' (also sold as Aster dumosus 'Wood's Pink')

Common Name: Wood's Pink Aster

Zones: 4–8

Height & Spread: 12–18 inches tall, spreading 18–24 inches wide

Descriptive Features: A compact, exceptionally floriferous dwarf aster prized for forming a dense, tidy, low-mounding habit that stays neat all season without staking or pinching. Fine-textured, small green leaves create a full, bushy clump that all but disappears beneath the flowers at peak bloom. From late summer into fall, the plant is smothered in a profusion of small, semi-double, soft pink daisy-like flowers with bright yellow centers, offering one of the longest and showiest bloom displays of any dwarf aster cultivar. An excellent late-season nectar source for bees, butterflies, and migrating Monarchs when few other plants are still flowering, with seed heads providing food for finches and other birds if left standing into winter. Adaptable to average garden soil and more heat- and humidity-tolerant than many other asters, though it still appreciates consistent moisture. Deer-resistant, low-maintenance, and reliably cold-hardy. Its compact size and dense floral display make it an excellent choice for the front of borders, edging, rock gardens, mass plantings, or containers in full sun to light shade.
