Descriptive Features: A robust, large-scale switchgrass discovered in Texas, prized for having some of the widest leaf blades of any switchgrass cultivar, giving the clump a notably bold, coarse texture. Wide, powdery blue-green leaves form an upright, slightly arching mound that provides strong structural presence through summer, holding up well to heat and humidity. In late summer to early fall, large, airy, pinkish-purple flower panicles emerge in an impressive, billowing cloud above the foliage — among the showiest blooms of any switchgrass — and mature to a fluffy beige-tan that persists into winter if left standing, offering seed and shelter for birds. Foliage turns warm gold to buff tones in fall. As a native prairie grass with an extensive, deep root system, it thrives in a wide range of soils from wet to dry and tolerates both occasional flooding and drought once established. Deer-resistant and low-maintenance, requiring only a late-winter cutback before new growth resumes. Its bold texture and dramatic plumes make it an excellent specimen, screen, or anchor for the back of large borders and naturalized plantings in full sun.
