Monarda fistulosa, commonly called wild bergamot, bee balm or horse mint, is a clumping perennial native to most of North America. Occurring in dryish soils in prairies, dry rocky woods, unplanted fields, and along roads and railways. A favorite of butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Host plant for the Raspberry pyraustra butterly. Clusters of lavender tube-like blossoms (1.5") appear from July through September. Foliage is distinctly aromatic. 

Easily grown in full sun and moderately moist soils. Tolerant of occasional drought. Provides color and contrast in herb gardens. Suitable for wild gardens, native plant gardens, meadows and naturalized areas.
