Penstemon Pallidus 1Gal

Penstemon pallidus, commonly called pale beardtongue, is an herbaceous perennial native to central and eastern United States. Occurs in a variety of habitats including dry or rocky open woods, glades, sandy soils on prairies, bluffs, rocky cliffs, abandoned fields and along railroads. Two-lipped, tubular, white (often with pink tinge) flowers bloom May-June and are followed by ovoid seed capsules which split open when ripe releasing numerous tiny seeds.

Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Avoid wet or poorly draining soils. Tolerant of drought, summer heat and humidity.  Remove spent flowers to prolong bloom time. Plants in cold winter climates often benefit from a loose layer of mulch in winter. Attractive to butterflies. Suitable for sunny borders, rock gardens, open woodland areas, mixed perennial beds and in mass plantings.
