Latin Name: Rudbeckia fulgida var. speciosa 'Viette's Little Suzy'
Common Name: Viette's Little Suzy Black-Eyed Susan
Zones: 3–9
Height & Spread: 12–18 inches tall, spreading 12–18 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A compact, dwarf selection discovered at André Viette's test garden in Fishersville, Virginia, chosen for its shorter habit and extended bloom time compared to standard black-eyed Susans. Forms a dense, upright, clump-forming mound of green foliage that turns attractive mahogany tones in autumn. Masses of bright golden-yellow flowers with dark brown centers bloom prolifically from midsummer through early fall, standing out for their density and free-flowering nature even in a smaller package than 'Goldsturm.' Makes excellent, long-lasting cut flowers. Drought-tolerant once established, deer-resistant, and a strong draw for butterflies and bees. Its petite scale makes it especially well suited to the front of borders, containers, and small-space plantings in full sun to part shade.
