Latin Name: Asclepias incarnata

Common Name: Rose Milkweed / Swamp Milkweed

Zones: 3–9

Height & Spread: 3–5 feet tall, spreading 2–3 feet wide

Descriptive Features: A native wetland perennial forming upright, clump-forming stands of narrow, lance-shaped green leaves on branching stems. From mid-summer through early fall, clusters of fragrant, rose-pink to mauve star-shaped flowers appear at the stem tips, followed by slender seed pods that split open to release silky, wind-borne seeds. Despite its swampy native habitat, it adapts well to average, well-drained garden soil once established, though it thrives best with consistent moisture. A crucial nectar source and larval host for Monarch butterflies, and deer-resistant thanks to its milky sap. Excellent for rain gardens, pond edges, wet meadows, or moist perennial borders in full sun.
