Chamaecyparis O. ‘Night Light’ 10Gal

Latin Name: Chamaecyparis obtusa Night Light®

Common Name: Night Light Hinoki Cypress

Zones: 5-8 (some sources list 4-8)

Height & Spread: 4-5 feet tall and wide in 10 years, with the potential to reach 15-30 feet tall and 10-15 feet wide over time if left untrimmed

Descriptive Features: A golden-leaved hinoki cypress introduced by Star® Roses and Plants, notable for foliage that resists sun scorch and winter burn, unlike many golden conifers. Forms a dense, compact, rounded shrub that matures into a full, upright evergreen. Flat, fan-shaped branchlets show soft yellow to golden tips against chartreuse-green foliage deeper inside the plant, an appealing two-tone look that holds all year. As winter approaches, the outer foliage turns a rich bronze while the inner portion stays green. The golden color is most vivid in full sun. Slow to moderate growing, and it can be trimmed in late winter or late spring to control its size or keep a more formal shape. Grows well in any well-drained soil and tolerates some dryness once established, but avoid slow-draining soils to prevent root rot. Moderately salt-tolerant, deer-resistant, and rarely troubled by pests or disease. An excellent choice as a specimen, focal point, accent, foundation planting, rock garden plant, hedge, or screen in full sun.
