Latin Name: Malus domestica 'Enterprise'

Common Name: Enterprise Apple

Zones: 4–8

Height & Spread: 12–20 feet tall (varies by rootstock), spreading 12–20 feet wide

Descriptive Features: A modern disease-resistant apple developed by Purdue University's PRI breeding program from a cross of McIntosh, Golden Delicious, and the scab-resistant crabapple Malus floribunda. Forms a vigorous, upright-spreading tree with dark green, oval deciduous foliage that turns yellow in fall, and fragrant white to pink blossoms in mid to late spring. Produces large, glossy, deep maroon-red apples with a crisp, juicy, fine-grained flesh and a sprightly sweet-tart flavor reminiscent of Fuji or Idared, ripening late in the season (October into November) with an unusually long hang time. The fruit stores exceptionally well — up to six months under refrigeration — with flavor that improves and mellows in storage. Notably field-immune to apple scab and highly resistant to fire blight, cedar apple rust, and powdery mildew, making it an excellent choice for low-spray or organic orchards. Requires a second variety nearby for cross-pollination and begins bearing reliably 2–5 years after planting. Best in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil.
