Latin Name: Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'

Common Name: Morning Light Maiden Grass

Zones: 5–9

Height & Spread: 4–5 feet tall (5–6 feet with flower plumes), spreading 3–4 feet wide

Descriptive Features: One of the most refined and elegant Miscanthus cultivars, prized for its exceptionally fine, narrow leaf blades edged in a thin, crisp white margin that gives the entire clump a soft, silvery-white glow from a distance — as though illuminated by morning light. Forms a dense, upright, gracefully arching fountain-like mound with a finer, more delicate texture than most other variegated maiden grasses. In early to mid-fall, coppery-red to bronze flower plumes rise above the foliage, aging to a fluffy, silvery-tan and persisting through much of winter, providing excellent multi-season structure, movement, and material for cut or dried arrangements, along with seed for birds if left standing. Foliage takes on warm gold and buff tones in fall before winter dormancy. Extremely low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, adaptable to a wide range of soils. Deer-resistant, needing only a late-winter cutback before new growth resumes. Its refined texture and luminous coloring make it an outstanding specimen, screen, backdrop, or accent for borders and mass plantings in full sun to light shade.
