Common Name: PowWow Wild Berry Coneflower

Zones: 3–8

Height & Spread: 18–24 inches tall, spreading 12–16 inches wide

Descriptive Features: A 2010 All-America Selections winner and standout among seed-grown coneflowers, valued for its exceptional floriferousness and compact, well-branched habit. Upright, sturdy, pubescent stems carry leathery, deep green, oval to lance-shaped foliage. Large, fragrant, 3–4 inch daisy-like flowers feature intense rosy-purple to magenta rays that arch gracefully downward and hold their vivid color without fading, surrounding a robust, spiny, coppery-orange center cone. Blooms prolifically from late spring through late summer, often with sporadic rebloom into fall, and typically flowers without deadheading required. Prickly seed heads persist into winter, adding structural interest and feeding goldfinches and other songbirds if left standing. Adaptable to poor, dry, or clay soils and highly drought-tolerant once established; deer-resistant and low-maintenance. Its compact size makes it especially well suited to small gardens and containers, in addition to borders, meadows, cutting gardens, and mass or wildlife plantings in full sun to part shade.
