Latin Name: Cryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana'

Common Name: Dwarf Globe Japanese Cedar

Zones: 5–9

Height & Spread: 3–5 feet tall, spreading 4–6 feet wide

Descriptive Features: A dense, slow-growing dwarf conifer prized for its naturally rounded, mounding form that requires little to no pruning to maintain its tidy shape. Soft, needle-like, evergreen foliage is arranged in attractive, slightly drooping, feathery sprays of rich blue-green that provide year-round textural interest. In colder winters, the foliage often takes on an attractive bronze-purple tint, adding seasonal color before returning to green with the warmth of spring. Forms an irregular, billowing mound over time as older specimens mature, developing a slightly more open, sculptural character with age — a desirable trait for specimen use. Extremely low-maintenance and long-lived, thriving in a wide range of soil types as long as drainage is adequate, though it appreciates consistent moisture, especially while young. Deer-resistant and largely free of pests and disease. Best sited with some protection from harsh winter winds and afternoon sun in the hottest climates. An excellent choice as a specimen, foundation planting, rock garden accent, or anchor for mixed conifer and shrub borders in full sun to part shade.
