Asarum Canadense 1Gal

Asarum canadense, commonly called wild ginger, is a perennial groundcover native to eastern and central North America. Occurring in deciduous forests and rich woodland understories. Features heart-shaped to kidney-shaped dark green leaves (to 6" wide). Cup-shaped, purplish brown flowers (1" wide) appear in spring, but are often hidden from view by the foliage. Though not related to culinary ginger, the roots of wild ginger produce a scent that is similar. 

Easily grown in average, medium to wet, well-drained soil, in part shade to full shade. Prefers constantly moist, acidic soils in heavy shade. Spreads slowly by rhizomes to form an attractive groundcover for shade areas. Suitable for woodland gardens, native plant gardens, and naturalized areas. Usually grown as a groundcover in shady areas.
