Descriptive Features: A compact, dense, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub forming a broadly spreading, rounded mound — considered one of the ultimate flowering shrubs for cold-climate gardens thanks to its exceptional hardiness (to -50°F). Fine-textured, ferny, dark green compound foliage sets it apart from coarser landscape shrubs and provides a refined backdrop all season. Large, showy, bright golden-yellow flowers over an inch across cover the branch tips continuously from late spring until frost, one of the longest bloom seasons of any flowering shrub. Highly adaptable to poor, dry soils and tolerant of urban pollution, though it dislikes consistently wet conditions. Deer-resistant and a good draw for butterflies.
