Latin Name: Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead'

Common Name: Munstead English Lavender

Zones: 5–8

Height & Spread: 12–18 inches tall, spreading 12–18 inches wide

Descriptive Features: One of the most widely grown and reliable English lavenders, a classic heirloom cultivar named after Gertrude Jekyll's famous garden, Munstead Wood. Forms a compact, rounded mound of narrow, silvery-gray, highly aromatic foliage. From early to midsummer, dense spikes of soft violet-blue flowers rise on slender stems just above the foliage, blooming earlier than many other lavender varieties. Excellent for drying, sachets, and culinary use thanks to its classic, sweet lavender fragrance. Extremely drought-tolerant once established and untroubled by deer or rabbits; performs best in poor to average, well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. A dependable choice for edging, low hedges, rock gardens, herb gardens, and borders in full sun.
