Matteuccia Struthiopteris 1.5Gal

Matteuccia struthiopteris, commonly called ostrich fern, is a clump-forming, upright to arching, deciduous fern native to much of the northern half of the United States. Occurring in wet woodlands and swampy areas. The showy parts of the fern are finely dissected medium green fronds which exhibit the feathery appearance of long ostrich plumes. The vegetative fronds emerge at the narrow base of the clumps in spring as the familiar "fiddleheads' from where they unfurl. 

Easily grown in average, medium to wet soils in part shade to full shade. Best in rich soils with constant moisture. Spreads by underground rhizomes to form dense colonies in optimum conditions. Place in locations protected from wind to minimize the risk of wind burn. Suitable for mass plantings, shady woodland areas, wild gardens and wet areas near streams and ponds.
