Latin Name: Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans'
Common Name: Elegans Hosta
Zones: 3–9
Height & Spread: 20–30 inches tall, spreading 36–60 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A classic, highly influential hosta cultivar known for its large, rounded, deeply corrugated leaves in a striking powdery blue-green hue. The thick, puckered foliage has a heavy waxy bloom that gives it excellent slug resistance and helps the blue coloring persist longer into summer than many other blue hostas. Forms a substantial, symmetrical mound with a stately, formal presence. In early to mid-summer, pale lavender-white flowers appear on stout scapes, though the foliage remains the main attraction. A parent to many modern blue hosta cultivars, 'Elegans' is prized as a specimen plant, background border plant, or anchor in shade and woodland gardens. Prefers part to full shade with moist, well-drained soil.
