Descriptive Features: A distinctive interspecific hybrid prized for its striking blue-green, waxy foliage overlaid with a delicate silvery-lace sheen, deepening to rich burgundy as the season progresses — attractive enough to hold its own even before the plant blooms. Bold, candy-apple-red stems support long, softly textured feathery plumes that emerge from deep salmon-pink buds and open to a gentle apricot-pink, held well above the foliage in early summer. Faded plumes turn a rich caramel color and can be left standing for winter interest, with the seed panicles echoing the red stem color. Notably fussy about moisture — this cultivar does not tolerate drought well and needs consistently moist, rich, acidic soil to perform its best, with a risk of chlorosis in alkaline conditions. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, low-maintenance otherwise, and attractive to bees and butterflies. An excellent choice for shady borders, woodland gardens, or container plantings in part to full shade.
