Descriptive Features: A sunny-yellow sport of the classic orange butterfly weed, forming a bushy clump of upright stems clothed in narrow, lance-shaped green leaves. Flat-topped clusters of vivid golden-yellow flowers bloom continuously from early summer through early fall, providing months of nectar for bees, butterflies, and the occasional hummingbird. As with all butterfly weed, this species lacks the milky sap typical of other milkweeds. Blooms give way to attractive spindle-shaped seed pods that split open to release silky-haired seeds, prized in dried arrangements. Slow to emerge in spring and slow to establish (2–3 years to first bloom from seed), but extremely drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and low-maintenance once settled. A vital host plant for Monarch butterflies; excellent for meadows, borders, and dry, sunny sites.
