Descriptive Features: A major advancement in pink-flowering smooth hydrangeas, bred by Bailey Nurseries as a native-rooted improvement on the classic Hydrangea arborescens. Forms a uniform, upright, mounded shrub with clean, bright green foliage. In summer, bold 8–10 inch mophead flower clusters open a striking ruby-pink and gracefully age to a soft parchment-pink, held on notably sturdy stems that resist flopping — a common shortcoming in older smooth hydrangea varieties. Blooms on new wood, so it can be cut back hard in late winter without sacrificing the following season's flowers, making it exceptionally reliable and low-maintenance. Thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil and adapts to full sun or part shade depending on climate, with more shade recommended in hotter regions. Exceptionally cold-hardy down to zone 3, and deer-resistant. An excellent choice as a flop-free anchor for mixed perennial borders, low hedges, foundation plantings, or mass plantings in full sun to part shade.
