Latin Name: Eutrochium purpureum Euphoria™ 'Ruby' (Eupatorium purpureum 'FLOREUPRE1')
Common Name: Euphoria Ruby Joe Pye Weed
Zones: 4–9
Height & Spread: 24–32 inches tall, spreading 24–28 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A compact, more manageable selection of sweet Joe Pye weed, offering the classic native look in a scale well suited to smaller gardens and containers where full-sized species would be too imposing. Forms a tidy, upright clump of coarsely serrated, rugose dark green foliage on sturdy, reddish-purple stems. In midsummer, earlier than most Joe Pye weeds and continuing into fall, dense, dome-shaped clusters of rich magenta-pink to ruby-red flowers top the plant, offering an extended season of color that's highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Adaptable to a wide range of soil types and pH, including clay, and tolerant of moisture levels from medium-moist to average — though it appreciates consistent water and struggles in prolonged drought. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, disease-resistant, and low-maintenance, needing only a late-winter cutback before new growth resumes. Its compact habit and early bloom time make it an excellent choice for smaller beds, front-of-border plantings, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, or containers in full sun to part shade.
