Latin Name: Echinacea × hybrida Sombrero® 'Hot Coral' ('Balsomcor')
Common Name: Sombrero Hot Coral Coneflower
Zones: 4–9
Height & Spread: 20–26 inches tall, spreading 18–24 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A vigorous, well-branched coneflower from the acclaimed Sombrero® series, prized for its rich, non-fading coral-orange blooms. Sturdy, upright flowering stems hold showy, 3-inch flowers with wide, slightly overlapping petals surrounding a striking dark chocolate-brown center cone, creating bold color contrast. Blooms profusely from early to late summer, sometimes with sporadic rebloom into fall, and its compact, uniform habit keeps the plant tidy without staking. Deadheading isn't required to sustain flowering but improves overall appearance. Highly attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, and songbirds, which feed on the seed heads if left standing through winter. Tolerant of drought, heat, and humidity once established, and deer-resistant. Its compact size suits small gardens and containers as well as borders, prairies, meadows, and cutting gardens in full sun to part shade.
