Latin Name: Tricyrtis formosana 'Autumn Glow'
Common Name: Autumn Glow Toad Lily
Zones: 4–9
Height & Spread: 24–26 inches tall, spreading 24–36 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A standout selection of Formosa toad lily prized for having the widest, most dramatic golden-yellow leaf margins of any variegated Tricyrtis — a luminous edge that seems to glow even in fuller shade, surrounding lance-shaped, glossy dark green centers. From midsummer into early fall (later in northern climates), the plant produces sprays of intricate, orchid-like flowers with six white tepals, heavily freckled in reddish-purple to blue-violet with a bright yellow throat, held above the foliage on erect, arching stems. Forms a compact, mounding clump that fills in to a sizable patch within a few seasons. Notably resistant to verticillium wilt and untroubled by deer, though it performs best with a couple of hours of direct sun rather than deep shade, which can dull its variegation. A late riser in spring, so patience is needed before new growth appears. Excellent as an accent, container plant, or ground cover for woodland gardens, borders, or shaded beds with rich, evenly moist, well-drained soil.
