Latin Name: Muhlenbergia reverchonii 'Undaunted'
Common Name: Undaunted Ruby Muhly Grass / Seep Muhly
Zones: 6–9
Height & Spread: 18–24 inches tall, spreading 24–30 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A tough, drought-defying selection of seep muhly, bred for exceptional resilience in hot, dry landscapes where many ornamental grasses struggle. Forms a fine-textured, mounding clump of narrow, thread-like green foliage that stays neat and compact through the growing season. In late summer to fall, airy, cloud-like panicles of tiny, ruby-pink to rose-colored flowers rise just above the foliage, creating a soft, luminous haze that catches the light beautifully, especially backlit by the low sun of early fall. Foliage takes on warm bronze-orange tones as temperatures cool. True to its name, it withstands extended drought, intense heat, and poor, rocky, or alkaline soils with ease, while also tolerating occasional wet conditions better than many other muhly grasses. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, low-maintenance, and requires only a late-winter cutback before new growth resumes. An excellent choice for xeriscapes, rock gardens, mass plantings, roadside or slope plantings, and pollinator gardens in full sun.
