Latin Name: Astilbe × chinensis 'Rise and Shine'
Common Name: Rise and Shine Astilbe
Zones: 4–9
Height & Spread: 27 inches tall, spreading 12–18 inches wide
Descriptive Features: A vigorous Chinese astilbe hybrid bred for superior genetics, offering a more solid root structure and more vibrant flower color than the straight species while retaining its signature increased sun and drought tolerance. Forms a bold, floriferous clump of glossy green foliage, often tinged with red. In midsummer, large 8-inch, hot pink, pyramidal plumes bloom atop remarkably strong flower stems that require no staking, making it one of the earliest and showiest chinensis-type astilbes to flower. Faded plumes and dried seed heads can be left standing for winter interest. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, bee-friendly, and a strong performer in containers as well as garden beds. An excellent "thriller" for mixed containers, or a bold accent for borders, mass plantings, rain gardens, or woodland edges in full sun to full shade, though it still needs consistently moist soil to perform its best.
