Hamamelis virginiana, commonly called witch hazel, is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to eastern North America. Occurring in woodlands, forests, and along stream banks. Features stem-hugging clusters of fragrant bright yellow flowers blooming in fall. Medium to dark green leaves turn attractive shades of yellow in fall.
Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. For best flowering, plant in full sun. Prefers moist, acidic, organically rich soils. Suitable for shrub borders, woodland gardens, screens and tall hedges, and as a specimen plant.
