Latin Name: Sedum 'Autumn Fire' (Hylotelephium 'Autumn Fire')
Common Name: Autumn Fire Stonecrop
Zones: 3–9
Height & Spread: 24–30 inches tall, spreading 18–24 inches wide
Descriptive Features: An improved selection of the classic 'Autumn Joy', developed in Quebec for its tighter growth habit, thicker foliage, and more brightly colored flowers. Forms an upright, substantial clump of thick, fleshy, glaucous gray-green leaves that can stand in for a small shrub in the landscape. Large, flattened flower heads packed with tiny, star-shaped blooms open soft rosy-pink in late summer, deepen to salmon-bronze, and finish in a rich coppery-red as fall progresses — holding their color and form longer into the season than 'Autumn Joy'. Sturdy stems keep the plant upright and intact through its long bloom period, and both foliage and dried flower heads provide winter interest and food for birds if left standing. Extremely drought-tolerant and easy to grow; a strong draw for bees and butterflies. Deer- and rabbit-resistant. An excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, mass plantings, or cut and dried arrangements in full sun.
